📘 Introduction: Verbs and Their Kinds

Verb (क्रिया) वाक्य का सबसे महत्वपूर्ण हिस्सा है – यह क्रिया, स्थिति, या घटना को दर्शाता है। बिना Verb के कोई वाक्य पूरा नहीं होता। अंग्रेज़ी में Verbs को उनके रूप, अर्थ और प्रयोग के आधार पर कई प्रकारों में बाँटा गया है।

Verb – क्रिया या स्थिति को व्यक्त करने वाला शब्द।

  • Action Verb: शारीरिक या मानसिक क्रिया – run, think, write
  • Linking Verb: Subject को उसकी स्थिति/पहचान से जोड़ता है – be, seem, become, appear, feel, look, sound, taste, smell
  • Helping Verb (Auxiliary): मुख्य Verb की सहायता करता है – is, am, are, was, were, have, has, had, do, does, did, will, shall, etc.
  • Modal Verb: संभावना, अनुमति, आवश्यकता दिखाता है – can, could, may, might, shall, should, will, would, must, ought to

  • Main Verb: वाक्य का मुख्य अर्थ बताता है – (e.g., She writes a letter.)
  • Auxiliary Verb (Helping): Main Verb की सहायता करता है – Tense, Voice, Mood दिखाने के लिए।
  • Primary Auxiliaries: be, do, have – इनका प्रयोग Tense और Voice बनाने में होता है।
  • Modal Auxiliaries: can, could, may, might, shall, should, will, would, must, ought to – संभावना, अनुमति, आवश्यकता, आदि दिखाते हैं।

  • Finite Verb: Subject के Number, Person, और Tense के अनुसार बदलता है – यह पूर्ण क्रिया है।
  • Non-finite Verb: Subject या Tense के अनुसार नहीं बदलता – ये Infinitive, Gerund, Participle होते हैं।
  • Infinitive: to + V1 (e.g., to go) – उद्देश्य/कार्य बताता है।
  • Gerund: V1 + -ing (e.g., swimming) – Noun की तरह काम करता है।

⚖️ 7 Rule 7: Subject-Verb Agreement (Complete)

Subject-Verb Agreement – कर्ता (Subject) और क्रिया (Verb) का Number और Person में मेल होना चाहिए।

  • Rule 1: Singular Subject → Singular Verb (He goes.) | Plural Subject → Plural Verb (They go.)
  • Rule 2: 'and' से जुड़े Subjects → Plural Verb (Ram and Shyam are friends.)
  • Rule 3: 'or/nor' से जुड़े Subjects → Verb निकटतम Subject के अनुसार (Either Ram or Shyam is coming.)
  • Rule 4: Each, either, neither, everyone, somebody, nobody, etc. → Singular Verb (Everyone likes ice-cream.)
  • Rule 5: Collective Nouns (team, jury, family, etc.) → Singular Verb (जब एक समूह के रूप में) | Plural (जब सदस्य अलग-अलग कार्य करें)
  • Rule 6: Titles, Amounts, Distance, Time → Singular Verb (Five hundred rupees is a lot.)
  • Rule 7: 'The number' → Singular; 'A number' → Plural
  • Rule 8: Subjects separated by phrases (along with, as well as, together with) → Verb पहले Subject के अनुसार
  • Rule 9: Indefinite Pronouns (some, any, all, most, none) → Singular/Plural अर्थ पर निर्भर
  • Rule 10: Subject after Verb (There is/are) → Verb Subject के अनुसार
