📘 Introduction: Universal Truth, Habits & Historical Facts

Direct Speech को Indirect Speech में बदलते समय सामान्य नियम है कि यदि Reporting Verb Past में हो तो Reported Speech का Tense बदल जाता है। लेकिन कुछ विशेष मामलों में Tense नहीं बदलता, चाहे Reporting Verb Past में ही क्यों न हो। ये मामले हैं: Universal Truth (सार्वभौमिक सत्य), Habits (आदतें), और Historical Facts (ऐतिहासिक तथ्य)।

📌 Golden Rule for These Cases

यदि Reported Speech Universal Truth, Habit (जो अभी भी सत्य है), या Historical Fact है → Tense नहीं बदलता (Reporting Verb Past में होने पर भी)।

Pronouns और Time/Place के शब्द बदलते हैं (जैसे I→he, now→then, etc.)।

🔍 Examples at a Glance

  • Universal Truth: He said, "The earth revolves around the sun." → He said that the earth revolves around the sun. (Tense unchanged)
  • Habit: She said, "I walk every morning." → She said that she walks every morning. (if still true)
  • Historical Fact: The teacher said, "India got independence in 1947." → The teacher said that India got independence in 1947. (No change)

📖 Detailed Notes – Rules with 5 Examples Each

🌍 1 Rule 1: Universal Truth (No Tense Change)

Universal Truth (सार्वभौमिक सत्य) – जैसे वैज्ञानिक तथ्य, प्राकृतिक नियम, आम सच्चाइयाँ।

  • Reporting Verb Past में होने पर भी Tense नहीं बदलता
  • केवल Pronouns, Time/Place के शब्द बदलते हैं (यदि आवश्यक हो)।
📝 5 Examples:
  1. He said, "The earth revolves around the sun." → He said that the earth revolves around the sun.
  2. She said, "Water boils at 100°C." → She said that water boils at 100°C.

  4. He said, "Honesty is the best policy." → He said that honesty is the best policy.
  5. She said, "Two and two make four." → She said that two and two make four.
🔄 2 Rule 2: Habits & Regular Actions (if still true)

Habits (आदतें) या regular actions जो अभी भी जारी हैं – Tense नहीं बदलता।

  • यदि habit अभी भी true है, तो Present Tense ही रखें।
  • यदि habit खत्म हो चुकी है, तो Tense बदलेगा (Past में)।
  • अक्सर exam में यह माना जाता है कि habit अभी भी true है जब तक विपरीत न बताया जाए।
📝 5 Examples:
  1. She said, "I walk every morning." → She said that she walks every morning. (habit still true)
  2. He said, "He smokes a lot." → He said that he smokes a lot. (if still true)

  5. He said, "She speaks French." → He said that she speaks French.
📜 3 Rule 3: Historical Facts (No Tense Change)

Historical Facts (ऐतिहासिक तथ्य) – जो अतीत में घटित हुई घटनाएँ हैं, लेकिन उनका तथ्य आज भी सत्य है।

  • वैसे Historical Facts में आमतौर पर Past Tense ही होता है (क्योंकि वे अतीत में घटित हुए)।
  • Indirect में Tense नहीं बदलता (Past Simple → Past Simple ही रहता है)।
  • क्योंकि यह एक स्थापित तथ्य है।
📝 5 Examples:
  1. The teacher said, "India got independence in 1947." → The teacher said that India got independence in 1947.
  2. He said, "World War II ended in 1945." → He said that World War II ended in 1945.
  3. She said, "Shakespeare wrote Hamlet." → She said that Shakespeare wrote Hamlet.

  5. He said, "The first moon landing happened in 1969." → He said that the first moon landing happened in 1969.
🔄 4 Rule 4: Pronouns & Time/Place Changes

Tense नहीं बदलता, लेकिन Pronouns और Time/Place के शब्द (जब आवश्यक हो) बदलते हैं।

  • Pronouns: SON Rule (Subject-Object-No change) लागू होता है।
  • Time: Now→Then, Today→That day, Tomorrow→The next day, Yesterday→The previous day, etc.
  • Place: Here→There, This→That, These→Those.
  • ये परिवर्तन हमेशा होते हैं, चाहे Tense बदले या न बदले।
📝 5 Examples:
  1. He said, "I am reading now." → He said that he was reading then. (Tense changed because it's not Universal Truth; this is just to show pronoun/time change; but in our specific cases, even if tense doesn't change, pronouns/time do change.)
  2. She said, "My book is here." → She said that her book was there. (if not universal)
  3. He said, "I will come tomorrow." → He said that he would come the next day. (not universal, shows change)
  4. They said, "We are happy today." → They said that they were happy that day.
  5. She said, "You can do it here." → She said that I could do it there.
