📘 Introduction: Reporting Verbs
Direct Speech को Indirect Speech में बदलते समय Reporting Verb (say, tell, ask, etc.) का चुनाव बहुत महत्वपूर्ण है। अलग-अलग Reporting Verbs अलग-अलग अर्थ और संरचना देते हैं। इस चैप्टर में हम मुख्य Reporting Verbs के प्रयोग को विस्तार से समझेंगे।

Say और Tell – दोनों का अर्थ 'कहना' है, लेकिन प्रयोग अलग:
- Say – किसी Object (me/him/her) के बिना प्रयोग होता है।
Structure: say (to someone) that... → He said (to me) that... - Tell – Object के साथ प्रयोग होता है (tell someone that...).
Structure: tell someone that... → He told me that... - Say के साथ 'to' लग सकता है, लेकिन Tell के साथ नहीं ('tell to me' गलत है)।
- कुछ निश्चित phrases: tell a story, tell a lie, tell the truth, tell time, etc.

- He said, "I am happy." → He said that he was happy. (no object)
- He said to me, "I am happy." → He said to me that he was happy. (or He told me that he was happy.)
- She told me, "You are smart." → She told me that I was smart. (object 'me' present)
- They said, "We are going." → They said that they were going. (no object)
- Rita said to her mother, "I am tired." → Rita told her mother that she was tired. (or said to her mother)
Ask का प्रयोग दो प्रकार से होता है:
- For Questions: Reporting Verb को 'asked' में बदलें (conjunction: if/whether या wh-word)।
- For Requests: 'asked' + Object + to + V1 (जब Direct में 'please' या अनुरोध हो)।
- या 'ask' का प्रयोग 'request' के अर्थ में भी किया जा सकता है।

Suggest / Propose / Recommend – सुझाव (suggestion) या प्रस्ताव देने के लिए:
- Direct: "Let's..." या "Why don't we..." आदि।
- Indirect: suggested / proposed / recommended + that + Subject + should + V1 (या बिना should के भी चलता है)।
- या 'suggested + V-ing' (gerund) – पर वह थोड़ा अलग है, लेकिन सामान्यतः 'that' वाला Structure आता है।
- 'Let's' को 'proposed that we should' या 'suggested that we should' में बदलें।

- She said, "Why don't we play chess?" → She proposed that they should play chess.
- He said, "Let's not waste time." → He suggested that we should not waste time.

- Rita said, "Let me help you." → Rita suggested that she should help me. (or offered to help)
Imperative Sentences (Command, Request, Advice, Prohibition) के लिए Reporting Verbs:
- Order / Command – for strict orders (ordered/commanded + object + to + V1)
- Request – for polite requests (requested + object + to + V1)
- Advise – for advice (advised + object + to + V1)
- Forbid – for prohibition (forbade + object + to + V1)
- Negative commands: 'not to' + V1 (या forbade + to + V1)
- Reporting Verb 'said to' को उपयुक्त Verb में बदलें।

अन्य Reporting Verbs – इनका प्रयोग विशेष अर्थों के लिए होता है:
- Promise – वादा करना (promised + to + V1 या promised + that + Subject + would + V1)
- Threaten – धमकी देना (threatened + to + V1)
- Warn – चेतावनी देना (warned + object + to + V1 या warned + that)
- Offer – प्रस्ताव देना (offered + to + V1)
- Agree – सहमत होना (agreed + to + V1)
- Refuse – मना करना (refused + to + V1)
- इन Verbs का प्रयोग अक्सर 'said' की जगह किया जाता है और इनके बाद infinitive (to + V1) आता है।
